The facilities will be located in the towns of Körmend and Szentgotthárd in the west of the country on its border with Austria, Hungary Today reported, referring to local media.
The government is reportedly intending to close the facilities at the settlements of Nagyfa, Kiskunhalas, Békéscsaba and Nyírbátor.
The official reason behind the measure is the fact that the facilities in the settlements have gradually become empty. Hungarian media refer to the head of the ruling conservative Fidesz party's parliamentary group, Lajos Kósa, who argued that two camps will be enough to house refugees currently staying in the country.
Other members of the so called Visegard Group including Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia supported this approach, saying they prefer to take better care of their own people rather than supply refugees fleeing other countries.
For many months, Europe has been beset by a massive refugee crisis, with hundreds of thousands of undocumented migrants fleeing their home countries in the Middle East and North Africa to escape violence and poverty. The current migration crisis is considered the worst since WWII.
