US President Barack Obama will meet with Cuban President Raul Castro on March 21 in Havana to discuss a range of issues including progress on restoring diplomatic ties and business opportunities, US Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes told reporters.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) —

"[Obama] will then proceed to the bilateral meeting with President Castro," Rhodes stated on Wednesday. "This will be an opportunity for us to review the progress made on the normalization of relations."

The meeting, Rhodes noted, will allow the two presidents to discuss areas where the US and Cuban governments have been able to initiate bilateral cooperation, and to address how both countries can expand space for people-to-people exchanges and greater commercial opportunities.

"We’ll have an opportunity in that vein to discuss both our regulatory changes that have been taken and steps that the Cuban government can take going forward to further open up space for the Cuban people to benefit from normalization," Rhodes added.

On Tuesday, the United States eased the manner of conducting transactions with Cuba, but obstacles in processing US currency on the island nation still remain, according to the White House.
