MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The withdrawal of Russian forces from Syria will be completed within two-three days, Russian Aerospace Forces Commander Col.Gen. Viktor Bondarev said.
"I think that this matter will be completed very quickly. Strictly in keeping with the time frames determined by Supreme [Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Putin] and Defense Minister [Sergei Shoigu]…. Within two to three days we will complete the assigned task," Bondarev told the Russian daily Komsomolskaya Pravda in an interview on Wednesday.
On Monday, Putin ordered the withdrawal of the main contingent of Russian forces from Syria, stating that they had accomplished their anti-terrorism mission.
Russia had conducted an aerial campaign against terrorists in Syria since September 30 at President Bashar Assad's request.
