WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Russia has complied with the Open Skies Treaty and shared information it has collected despite US concerns about restrictions Moscow imposed in certain areas, US Undersecretary of State for Arms Control And International Security Rose Gottemoeller told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Thursday.
"It [Russia] is absolutely in compliance with the agreement," Gottemoeller stated. "With Open Skies, we have the right under the treaty to take mitigating measures. If we don't want the Russians to see something, we mitigate. And so, we plan for that and think about it."
Gottemoeller explained the United States had raised concerns with Russia about imposing restrictions on flying over Georgian territory, but added that US officials have full confidence that Moscow was sharing the information they have been acquiring.
