WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The contracts were described as being for complex and continuous maintenance work on surface combatant warships including destroyers DDGs and various classes of amphibious warships for implementing landings on hostile defended shores class ships, the announcement concluded.
"BAE Systems San Diego Ship Repair, San Diego, California; Continental Maritime of San Diego, San Diego, California; and General Dynamics, NASSCO, San Diego, California are each being awarded contracts… [with] a cumulative ceiling value of $1.3 billion," the announcement stated on Wednesday.
Work on the contracts will be performed at contractor facilities or at Naval Base San Diego, and is expected to be completed by April 2021, the announcement noted.
Each contractor will be awarded one contract for surface combatant class ships and one contract for amphibious class ships, according to the announcement.
"These contracts contain options, which if exercised, would have Aegis-missile cruisers (DDGs) and Chief of Naval Operations availabilities on surface ships," it pointed out.
