Reunited and It Feels So Good: Crimeans Reflect on Two Years With Russia
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Crimea, which has a predominately ethnically-Russian population, seceded from Ukraine to rejoin Russia two years ago following a referendum on March 16 in which over 96 percent of voters supported the move.

"It is a region of the Russian Federation. Russia has not discussed and will not discuss with anyone its regions. In this case, there should be an absolute respect for the will of the Crimean people and for the decision, which was made two years ago. It is not a matter for the discussion, and in this case, of course, it is not an issue that can be the subject for any negotiation or international contacts," Peskov told reporters.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Crimean leaders signed a reunification treaty on March 18, 2014 following the referendum, in which the overwhelming majority of the region's population backed seceding from Ukraine and returning to Russia.

However, Kiev and the West labelled Crimea's secession an "annexation" and started introducing sanctions against Moscow.
