BEIJING (Sputnik) – The Asia-Pacific Region's largest center for nuclear security, which is jointly sponsored by China and the United States, started operations on Friday in Beijing, Chairman of the China Atomic Energy Authority (CAEA) Xu Dazhe said.
"The center, built by the CAEA and the US Department of Energy is able to train about 2,000 nuclear-security staff for China and other nations in the Asia-Pacific region every year,” Xu said, as quoted by the Xinhua news agency.
Construction of the center began in December 2013. The center is the largest nuclear program to have direct Chinese and US government investment.
