MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The incident occurred on Friday afternoon at an elevation of 5,000 feet, Los Angeles police Lt. Robert Binder said as cited by The Los Angeles Times.
Police helicopters headed to the area to try and locate the drone pilot. According to the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the drone flew 200 feet over the aircraft, the newspaper said.
Pilot sightings of unmanned aircraft increased from 238 in 2014 to more than 650 by 2015, according to FAA. One out of every five risky incidents involving planes and drones happens in California, The Los Angeles Times said citing a 2015 analysis based on federal data.
