Syrian Kurds Interested in Boosting Military Cooperation With Russia
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Thursday, the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) and allied groups in several areas under Kurdish control announced the creation of a federal region in northern Syria.

Around 200 delegates, including a range of ethnic groups populating the area, converged in the town of Rmeilan in the run-up to the announcement.

The move was opposed by all major stakeholders as undermining Syrian territorial integrity amid resumed proximity talks between government and opposition delegates in Geneva.

"It is up to the Syrian people to determine their internal administrative structures. It has had no impact on the intra-Syrian talks in Geneva," Fawzi, who is also the chief spokesman of the Syrian talks said.

The head of the Syrian Kurds representative office in Moscow, Rodi Osman, told Sputnik that the Kurds were seeking to finalize the federalization project as soon as possible to present it to the United Nations and to other countries.
