BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — May said that Abdeslam, reportedly a French citizen born in Belgium, was "cooperating with the Belgian justice." He added that his defendant had been issued with a European arrest warrant.
"I can already tell you that we are going to refuse his extradition to France," the leading Brussels barrister told reporters after a hearing at the federal police office in the Belgian capital, as cited by La Derniere Heure newspaper.
Abdeslam appeared before a Belgian court earlier in the day. He is wanted in France for helping organize and carry out the deadly November 13 terror attacks, which were claimed by Daesh terrorist group.
He was arrested on Friday during a raid by Belgian police in the Brussels district of Molenbeek, after a four-month manhunt.
