Monson became a Russian citizen at the end of 2015 and already fought under a Russian flag on December 25, 2015 against Cameroonian fighter Donald Njatah Nya. Unfortunately for the 45-year-old MMA veteran Monson, his 23-year-old opponent knocked him out cold in the first round.
This time around the Snowman was more successful and was able to take his opponent, Anton Lotkov, to the ground. After that Monson finished the fight by a submission, considering he's a known grappling specialist.
Now Monson is expected to face Maksim Kiselev on April 23 in a grappling tournament in Nizhniy Novgorod. The Snowman will then again step into the MMA cage on April 29 to fight against Viktor Oparin.
Monson is the second well-known US fighter to obtain Russian citizenship in 2015 after legendary boxer Roy Jones Jr.
