Kazakh Parliamentary Election Goes Freely, Lawfully - CIS Observer

On Sunday, Kazakhstan is holding an early election to the lower house of parliament (Mazhilis) and a regular election of deputies to the local representative bodies.

ALMATY (Sputnik) — The early parliamentary election in Kazakhstan and regular election to local representative bodies are being held in accordance with the republic's legislation, Yuri Demyanenko, a representative of the CIS monitoring mission an Almaty, said Sunday.

"The election is currently being held freely, in a quiet atmosphere, at rather high turnout and in full accordance with the constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the law 'On Elections in the Republic of Kazakhstan,'" Demyanenko told journalists.

On Sunday, Kazakhstan holds the early election to the lower house of parliament (Mazhilis) and the regular election of deputies to the local representative bodies.

The lower house of the Kazakh parliament consists of 107 deputies, with 98 elected with party lists within the single national constituency. The remaining nine deputies are elected by the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan (AKP), which is a national political body representing various ethnic groups living in the republic.

The election of the AKP deputies is scheduled for March 21.
