BRUSSELS (Sputnik) – Salah Abdeslam was wounded in a shootout and arrested in a large-scale raid alongside four others in the Brussels area of Molenbeek on March 18. He is expected to be extradited to Paris within 45 days to face charges for his role in the November 13, 2015, terrorist attacks that killed a total of 130 people outside a football stadium, at a concert hall and across several restaurants.
“We fear that Abdeslam’s arrest activates other terrorist cells…The network remains active in Europe,” Jambon told Belgium’s RTL broadcaster in an interview.
Abdeslam, who confessed to planning a suicide bombing at the Stade de France then backing out at the last minute, was charged with “terrorist murder” on Saturday. The top suspect in the deadly rampage is thought to have rented and driven a car transporting the gunmen and other suicide bombers.
Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders said Abdeslam had claimed to “restart” his terror activities from Brussels.
