ASTANA (Sputnik) — Kazakhstan's Nur Otan party, headed by the country's incumbent President Nursultan Nazarbayev, has received 82.15 percent of votes in the parliamentary election, the head of the Kazakh Central Election Commission said Monday citing preliminary results.
"According to preliminary data, the votes were distributed as follows: 82.15 percent for Nur Otan, 7.14 percent for CPPK [Communist People's Party], 7.14 percent for Ak Zhol, 0.29 for Birlik, 1.18 for the Nationwide Social Democratic Party, two percent for Auyl," Kuandyk Turgankulov told reporters.
The electoral threshold in Kazakhstan stands at seven percent.
The Mazhilis consists of 107 lawmakers, 98 of whom are elected directly from party lists by a single national constituency.
A national political body representing various ethnic groups, the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan (AKP), is expected to elect the remaining nine lawmakers later on Monday.
