A number of outside observers described Sunday’s early voting to the central Asian republic’s lower house (Mazhilis) as transparent and free of major violations.

The Mazhilis consists of 107 lawmakers, 98 of whom are elected directly from party lists by a single national constituency.

A national political body representing various ethnic groups, the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan (AKP), is expected to elect the remaining nine lawmakers later on Monday.
