HAVANA (Sputnik) — US State Secretary John Kerry reaffirmed on Monday his plans to discuss security issues, the situation in the Middle East and Ukraine, as well as many 'special' topics with the Russian leadership during his visit to Russia on March 23-24.
"Obviously we will talk about the security areas, Middle East, Ukraine, et cetera," Kerry told RIA Novosti.
"We have a lot of special [issues to discuss]," Kerry said answering a question on whether he was planning to discuss any 'special' topics with the Russian leadership.
Last week, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Lavrov would be meeting Kerry, expressing hope that the visit of the top US diplomat would contribute to a thaw in the bilateral relations.
Kerry is currently accompanying US President Barack Obama on his historic visit to Cuba.
Relations between Washington and Havana began to improve after Obama announced in December 2014 a historic thaw in US-Cuba ties, including the loosening of US restrictions on travel and trade.
