MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) refused to comment to Sputnik Monday on reports that Special Air Service (SAS) units have been put on standby amid the threat of simultaneous terrorist attacks on London.
Earlier in the day, British media outlets reported that officers from the Metropolitan Police Service and SAS units were preparing for as many as ten simultaneous attacks across the UK capital. The London Metropolitan Police Service confirmed its participation in the preparations to Sputnik.
"We won't comment on Special Forces [SAS] operations… if it's a thing that [has to do with] Special Forces, we cannot comment on it," an MoD press officer said, commenting on the reports.
The reports about the threat of terrorist attacks in London come after Paris suffered a series of terror incidents on November 13, in which some 130 people were killed. The Daesh terrorist group, outlawed in Russia and many other countries, claimed responsibility for the attacks.
