Obama Begins Meeting With Cuba’s Castro
15:11 GMT 21.03.2016 (Updated: 10:50 GMT 06.08.2022) US President Barack Obama began meeting with Cuban President Raul Castro at Havana's Palace of the Revolution.
HAVANA (Sputnik) — US President Barack Obama has started his meeting with Cuban President Raul Castro on Monday to review the progress made in the normalization of relations between the two nations.
The negotiations are taking place at Havana's Palace of the Revolution.
Relations between the United States and Cuba began to improve after Obama announced in December 2014 a historic change in US policy, including the loosening of restrictions on travel and trade imposed on the Caribbean island nation.
The US leader arrived in the Cuban capital on Sunday afternoon, a first visit by a sitting US president to Cuba since Calvin Coolidge sailed in Havana aboard a US battleship in 1928.
