VILNIUS (Sputnik) — Security at the Lithuanian airports has been increased following the deadly explosions in the Belgian capital earlier on Tuesday, Joris Gintilas, director of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), told local media.
"Security patrolling has been stepped up and extra security measures, which I cannot disclose in public, will be applied," Gintilas told BNS news agency.
According to him, if the state security department decides to change the terrorist threat level, raising it to moderate, then even stricter measures will be introduced at all airports.
Earlier on Tuesday, series of blasts hit the Brussels Zaventem airport and a city metro station, killing at least 34 people and injuring over 150 others. The Belgian authorities are considering the explosions part of a coordinated terrorist attack.
