MADRID (Sputnik) – The Spanish authorities are currently considering the possibility of increasing the level of terror threat in the country at an Interior Ministry meeting, the ministry said Tuesday.
A series of blasts hit the Belgian capital earlier in the day, including the Brussels Zaventem airport and several metro stations in the city center.
"The threat level remains at the fourth level [out of five possible]. We are assessing the situation at the moment. In the course of the day, it will be announced whether security measures are strengthened and threat level in Spain is increased," a Spanish Interior Ministry spokesperson told RIA Novosti.
Spain's terror threat level has been maintained at level four after the November 2015 attacks in Paris, however, security at some key venues of the country was reinforced.
