LONDON (Sputnik) – The United Kingdom is strengthening border security with Belgium and France over Tuesday’s multiple explosions in Brussels, a Home Office spokesman said Tuesday.
"We have taken steps to intensify our efforts at the UK-Belgian and UK-French border, this includes: enhanced searching of inbound tourist vehicles, additional opening of car boots / transit vans, a heightened Border Force presence at ports, targeted Border Force presence at specific ports, with additional security checks on some flights," the spokesman stated in a press release.
A series of blasts hit Brussels earlier in the day, including two explosions in the Brussels Zaventem airport that left 14 people killed, according to latest reports. At least 20 people were reportedly killed in explosions in metro in central Brussels.
