WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States is trying to account for the wellbeing of all US citizens in Brussels, Belgium after terrorists executed two attacks in the city earlier on Tuesday, US Secretary of State John Kerry said in a statement.
"The US Embassy in Brussels is making every effort to account for the welfare of American citizens in the city, and in the days ahead we stand ready to provide whatever support the Belgian government may require," Kerry stated on Tuesday.
Two bomb explosions left at least 14 people dead at the Brussels Airport, while a blast in the central Brussels Maelbeek metro station killed 20 others. According to the latest reports, as many as 200 people have been injured in the attacks.
Following the attacks, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced that three US citizens who had been serving as Mormon missionaries in Paris, France had been injured in the Brussels attacks.
Senior US authorities said they are in touch with Belgian authorities and have offered any support to help the investigation of the terrorist attacks and bring the perpetrators to justice.
