MOSCOW (Sputnik) — France has deployed 700 extra gendarmes to strengthen security at its border with Belgium, as well as motorways heading from the country’s north and toll plazas around Paris following terrorist attacks in Brussels, the National Gendarmerie told Sputnik on Wednesday.
"After the attacks in Brussels, we have engaged 700 additional mobile gendarmes. They have been tasked with strengthening checkpoints on the border with Belgium, controlling motorways heading from northern France and controlling toll plazas on motorways around Paris," spokesman Jean-Francois Brisse said.
As many as 432 gendarmes are also ensuring airport security, according to the official.
