MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Wednesday that only Vladimir Putin could decide on whether to release or exchange Ukrainian national Nadezhda Savchenko, and there is no decision on that yet.
"As for extradition or exchange, this can only be done by the Russian president. In this case, I am not aware of him taking any decisions," Peskov told reporters.
The court ruled that Nadezhda Savchenko is not eligible for a pardon for at least 12 years — until 2028. The Ukrainian pilot was detained in July 2014, and charged with complicity in the deaths of two Russian journalists in eastern Ukraine, and for illegally crossing the border.
