MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Syrian ceasefire is generally holding, despite recorded violations, the commander of the Russian military contingent in Syria said.
"Despite recorded violations, the cessation of hostilities in Syria has been generally observed. The reconciliation process is most active in the provinces of Hama and Homs. We hope that in the near future in these areas, the fighting will stop completely," Col. Gen. Alexander Dvornikov told the Rossiiskaya Gazeta in an interview.
Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with forces loyal to President Bashar Assad's government fighting numerous opposition factions and extremist groups.
On February 22, Russia and the United States reached an agreement on a ceasefire in Syria, which took effect on February 27.
