MINSK (Sputnik) – The situation in Ukraine may deteriorate if the process of political settlement is delayed, Russian Contact Group envoy Boris Gryzlov said Wednesday.
"The urgent need for security and full ceasefire cannot be an excuse, as some have suggested, for postponing the elections in Donbas, and, therefore, [delaying] a political settlement for three, five or ten years. On the contrary, if we go along the path of delaying a political settlement, the situation may get even worse," Gryzlov told reporters.
It is impossible to guarantee security in eastern Ukraine without progress in political settlement, he stressed.
