WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States and Argentina hope the political crisis that has engulfed Brazil is resolved in an efficient manner, US President Barack Obama said in a joint press conference with Argentinian President Mauricio Macri on Wednesday.
Brazil has been rocked by protests in recent days after President Dilma Rousseff named her predecessor, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, as chief of staff despite a corruption probe against him.
"We hope Brazil resolves its current political crisis in an effective way," Obama stated.
Brazil’s law system, Obama noted, is strong enough to resolve the situation and ensure the country remains a global economic leader.
Last week, Brazilian police used water cannons and tear gas to disperse protesters that had blocked the central Paulista Avenue for two days, according to media.
