MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to Al Mayadeen television channel, the Iraqi forces pushed back terrorists on several fronts earlier in the day, successfully managing to regain control of several villages in the vicinity of Mosul.
On March 5, special US presidential envoy for the international anti-Daesh coalition, Brett McGurk, announced the launch of a campaign to liberate Mosul.
Daesh, a terrorist group that is outlawed in Russia and the United States, took Mosul in June 2014 after the US-trained and equipped Iraqi army fled the area, leaving behind significant amounts of US military hardware.
