A Russky Island priority development area (PDA) in Russia’s Far East will be set up as soon as the region secures concrete financial and investment plans, Presidential Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yury Trutnev said Thursday.

VLADIVOSTOK (Sputnik) A total of 10 PDAs are active in the Far East region, including three in the Primorsky Territory, two each in the Amur Region and the Khabarovsk Territory, as well as one in the Kamchatka Territory, the Chukotka Autonomous Area and the Sakha Republic (Yakutia).

"Nothing special has grown over the existence of a special economic zone on Russky Island. We will work within the framework of the PDA… This work is underway," Trutnev told reporters.

He said the three PDAs in the Primorsky Territory attracted investments valued at the ruble equivalent of $3 billion, adding that creating employment opportunities was a priority on Russky Island.

"As soon work is completed, we will be able to create the area within a month and a half," Trutnev specified.

The Russian Far East Development Ministry says two additional PDAs are in final stages of development in the Sakhalin Region.
