WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Democratic candidates for the US presidency and the Democratic Party itself beat out Republican rivals when potential voters were asked a simple question — whether they had a favorable or unfavorable view, a CNN/ORD poll revealed on Thursday.
Unlike many polls that punctuate US political contests, the CNN/ORD survey proved unique because it asked one simple question.
"We'd like to get your overall opinion of some people in the news. As I read each name, please say if you have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of these people — or if you have never heard of them," interviewers asked nearly 2,000 adults during the March17-20 survey.
Some 50 percent of respondents said they had a favorable view of the Democratic Party, compared with 34 percent for the Republican Party. On the flip side, 45 percent had an unfavorable view of the Democrats and 61 percent had an unfavorable view of the Republicans.
For the individual candidates, the favorable-unfavorable views were as follows: Bernie Sanders (48 percent, 43 percent), Hillary Clinton (43 percent, 56 percent), John Kasich (40 percent, 31 percent), Ted Cruz (34 percent, 54 percent) and Donald Trump (31 percent, 67 percent).
