MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia and the United States agree that there is no alternative to the Minsk agreements as means to regulate the crisis in Ukraine, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Friday.
"Despite some nuances, we have no disagreements as far as there being no alternative to implementation of the Minsk agreements, including direct dialogue of Kiev with Donetsk and Lugansk, including issues of ensuring security and promotion of political process," Lavrov said at a press conference with US State Secretary John Kerry.
Lavrov also said that Moscow will work on ensuring that the self-proclaimed people’s republics in southeastern Ukraine (Donbass) implement the Minsk peace agreement.
"We have indeed pledged to ensure that Donbass, that the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Lugansk [DPR and LPR], implement what they and their representatives signed under in Minsk," Lavrov said.
