In December 2015, Sanders filed a lawsuit against the DNC after it temporarily shut down access to shared voter data in response to a Sander's aide allegedly accessing the data of rival Hillary Clinton.
The aide stated he was "only trying to document a system error so it could be fixed." However, Clinton campaign representative Robby Mook argued that, "This was not an inadvertent glimpse into our data, not a mistake. They made 25 intentional and targeted searches of our data." The aide was fired.
The DNC agreed to restore Sanders' access after he filed a lawsuit. But the Vermont Senator's campaign has not closed the suit, which seeks an additional $75,000 for breach of contract, stating that, "even the brief interruption represented a serious blow."
US District Judge Tanya Chutkan had given the Sanders campaign a Thursday deadline to serve the DNC with the suit or risk having it dropped from the federal court.
The court filing says the two sides "continue to engage in cooperative discussions in their efforts to resolve the pending litigation and will keep the court updated on those discussions."
