MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in March, thousands of documents identifying 22,000 Daesh supporters in more than 50 countries were leaked to Britain’s Sky News television channel. A former Free Syrian Army convert to Daesh who called himself Abu Hamed allegedly handed over the data on a memory stick.
According to information contained in the documents, five men left Finland in 2014 to join Daesh in Syria. Two of them are still abroad, while one has been killed. Three of the men had Finnish citizenship. Finland's security services said that the information appeared to be genuine, the Yle broadcasting company reported, stating that it had access to the leaked documents.
Daesh is a terrorist group that has captured large areas of Syria and Iraq, where it has proclaimed a caliphate. The group is outlawed in Russia, the United States and in several other countries.
