MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the report published by the UK-based Institute for Public Policy Research, 83 percent of migrants from Eastern Europe and 75 percent of other EU migrants are employed in the United Kingdom, while only 74 percent of UK nationals have a job in the country.
"Central and eastern European migrants tend to be in low-skilled work and on low pay. The median gross hourly pay of NMS13 [Eastern European] workers is £3 [$4.2] less than for UK nationals," it was stated in the survey.
"If the UK remains in the EU, then the proposed reforms [special status deal] <…> are unlikely to have a significant impact on future EU migration flows <…> If the UK leaves the EU, then future flows from EU countries will depend on the immigration system the UK chooses to adopt," the authors of the survey noted.
UK nationals are set to vote on June 23 in an in/out referendum on the country's membership of the European Union. Prime Minister David Cameron and 27 of his European colleagues secured a deal in February to grant the United Kingdom a special status within the bloc. Cameron, who won the 2015 election on a promise to renegotiate the terms of Britain's EU membership, now leads the "Stay" campaign.
