“No matter where you live, you’ve got to clean up all the streets in every city of the world!” Edmund Platt told Sputnik.
“Our 1 Déchet Par Jour Facebook page is overcrowded now and we have 1,100 photos sent in by people from across the world on Instagram. It’s very simple: you take a snapshot and post in online with the 1 Piece of Rubbish a day hashtag, add a short commentary, name the place the photo was taken and mention five friends. The Ice Bucket Challenge thing was fun, and we are now launching the Déchet Poubelle Challenge. You need to clear the trash with a smile because you are spending your time the right way and doing useful things evetry day. The feedback we are getting from people shows that they feel much bettre doing this,” he added.
“Everyone living on Earth can pick up a piece of rubbish every day. In Marseilles and everywhere else. Marseilles is not a scrapyard, it’s a phenomenal city you have to come to to appreciate. And the people who live here are also great. Waste is the only problem we have here,” Edmund said.
"We are neck deep in plastic waste. A single Evian bottle falls into 10,000 pieces, then into smaller ones, tiny as a human hair. All this turns into nano-waste, which eventually evaporates into the air we breathe. This is a problem all of us here in France, in Britain, in the Arab countries need to do something about. That’s why this initiative is so good. People need to start responding. We are going to have a celebration with animated shows at every school. We are going to talk about this. It’s going to be cool. Just watch the news!” Edmund said.
