MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Kiev's chief military prosecutor, Anatolii Matios, confirmed that Grabovsky had been shot dead. The body of the killed man, who disappeared on March 9, was found buried in Ukraine's Cherkasy region in the woods close to the town of Zhashkov.
"We hope that the Ukrainian authorities will take all the necessary measures to find and bring to justice all those involved in this crime," the statement read.
The ministry added that Kiev, in spite of all the warnings, could not or would not ensure the safety of the lawyer.
"The intimidation and physical elimination of dissenters, and now the lawyers, highlight strengthening of the anti-democratic, totalitarian tendencies in Ukraine that have nothing to do with the European norms of morality and law, the beloved issue of the Kiev’s rhetoric," the statement concluded.
In May 2015, Russian nationals Yevgeny Yerofeyev and Alexander Alexandrov were taken prisoner near a front-line town in the Lugansk region in eastern Ukraine. Kiev authorities claimed that the detainees were active-duty Russian army servicemen.
The Russian Defense Ministry dismissed the claims, acknowledging that Alexandrov and Yerofeyev had received military training in the Russian Armed Forces in the past, but were not on active duty at the time of their arrest. Moscow has demanded the release of the prisoners.
