DAMASCUS (Sputnik) – Residents of the Syrian capital's suburbs, which have been cleared of terrorist control, began returning to their homes on a mass scale, head of the Damascus province reconciliation group Maj. Gen. Aleksander Linkov said Friday.
"You can say the numbers are impressive, it is clear that civilians are returning to their homes. The fact that Russia delivers timely humanitarian assistance plays an important role, everyone is grateful to the Russian people," Linkov said.
Russian-Syria humanitarian cargo has been delivered to the town of Babbila south of Damascus as part of the national reconciliation process. The town has recently been freed from Nusra Front jihadist fighters.
Sunday marks one month since the cessation of hostilities between Syrian government and rebel forces will have been in effect. Terrorist organizations active in the Arab republic are excluded from the truce.
