MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Friday night gig comes amid the normalization of relations between Cuba and the United States.
According to the NBC News network, around 500,000 people gathered to watch the band perform.
"Hello Havana! Good evening to my Cuban people," lead singer Mick Jagger said to the crowd, as quoted by the media outlet.
The concert takes place days after Barack Obama became the first US President to visit the island nation in over 90 years.
In December 2014, Obama announced that the United States would begin to normalize relations with Cuba after more than 50 years of non-engagement and hostilities. While the two countries reopened embassies in their respective capitals in July 2015, the congressionally-mandated US trade embargo continues to remain in effect.
