More than 2,000 armed police officers will be deployed in the United Kingdom to provide additional security measures in the country's biggest cities, local media reported Sunday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Friday, Belgian police detained Mohamed Abrini, a suspected organizer of Brussels explosions and accomplice of likely Paris attacks mastermind. During the special operation, police have found photos of a shopping complex in the British city of Birmingham among Abrini's personal possessions.

According to The Sunday Times newspaper, the additional armed officers would be deployed due to the growing terror threat in the country, following the discovery of the photographs.

The newspaper added that the number of the country's armed police officers would be increased by 1,000, while other troops would be redeployed from the protection of nuclear power plants in case of multiple terror attacks in the United Kingdom.

On Tuesday, at least 31 people were killed and over 300 were wounded in several terrorist attacks in Brussels. On November 13, a series of terrorist attacks were staged across Paris, leading to the death of 130 people and injuring over 350 others. Islamic State, which is outlawed in many countries, including Russia and the United Kingdom, has claimed responsibility for the violence in both the French and the Belgian capitals.
