ATHENS (Sputnik) — According to the broadcaster, the hijacker is part of the Egyptian opposition. He is reportedly also demanding to be put in contact with an EU representative.
Egypt's Minister of Civil Aviation Sherif Fathy told reporters earlier that the hijacker was not voicing any specific demands.
The hijacker of the EgyptAir plane currently located at Larnaca was not armed, but it has been impossible so far to verify whether his explosive belt is real, Egypt's Minister of Civil Aviation Sherif Fathy said Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, a man hijacked an Airbus A320 en route from Egypt’s Alexandria to Cairo. The plane subsequently landed at Cyprus' Larnaca airport.
