MOSCOW (Sputnik) — There are no Russian citizens on board of the hijacked EgyptAir commercial jet, according to the preliminary data received after studying the lists of passengers, a source in the Russian Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, the EgyptAir passenger flight MS181 was hijacked in Cyprus Larnaca International Airport by a single male suicide bomber with between 58 and 82 people on board, according to various reports.
"According to preliminary information, after studying the captured aircraft's passenger list, there are no Russian citizens on its board…We are closely following the developments of the situation and are in contact with the authorities of Cyprus and Egypt," the source told RIA Novosti.
The report of the hijacked passenger jet traveling from Egypt’s Alexandria to Cairo was received by police at 8:30 a.m. local time (6:30 GMT).
