The Dutch Are to Oppose EU-Ukraine Association Treaty in Referendum
KIEV (Sputnik) – Ukraine intends to continue implementing reforms as part of its EU Association Agreement regardless of the outcome of an upcoming Dutch referendum, Ukrainian Finance Minister Natalie Jaresko said Wednesday.

Voters in the Netherlands are scheduled to go to the polls on April 6 to back or reject the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement in an advisory vote. A turnout of 30 percent is required on the day for the referendum result to be considered by the government.

"Ukraine will continue reforms under any results… The Dutch people’s decision is only their decision," Jaresko said at a Ukraine-Dutch business forum in the Hague, as quoted by the Evropeyskaya Pravda online publication.

Dutch Vote on EU-Ukraine Association Deal Is 'Headache' for Brussels
The EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, establishing a political and economic association between Kiev and Brussels, was signed in June 2014. Its Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area, granting Ukraine access to the EU market, came into force on January 1, 2016.

The Netherlands is the only EU country that has not yet ratified the deal. The government decided to hold a non-binding referendum after over 400,000 people signed a petition to put the matter to a nationwide vote. The latest opinion polls indicate over half of Dutch voters lean toward voting against the agreement.
