Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey and the West could announce a no-terror zone in the northern part of Syria and declare that area to be a no-fly zone at the same time in order to provide safety and security for the refugees.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Turkey and the West should establish a "terror-free zone" in northern Syria to resettle refugees and prevent their migration to Europe, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said during an addres at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC on Thursday.

"We could announce a no-terror zone in the northern part of Syria and we could declare that area to be a no-fly zone at the same time in order to provide safety and security for the refugees," Erdogan stated.

The Turkish president further explained that "Syrian citizens could be encouraged to live in their own motherland" in homes constructed on small plots of land and surrounded by schools and hospitals; the United Nations and NATO would be responsible for the zone’s security.
