A team of seasoned parachute jumpers leapt out of an aircraft flying 1,200 meters (4000 feet) above the largest source of fresh water in the world, plunging straight into an ice hole in the middle of Lake Baikal.
Not only did the intrepid athletes have to deal with treacherous weather conditions, like sudden squalls with speed up to 10 meters per second, but their plane actually took off straight from the ice of Lake Baikal instead of a proper airfield.
According to Victor Kalyuzhny, one of the daredevils who performed the stunt, they deliberately didn’t rehearse the jump in order to make it ‘more extreme’.
"There was only one shot," Kalyuzhny said, according to RT.
The stunt was performed during the Baikal Rift extreme sports festival, which was held last weekend at Lake Baikal.
