SANTIAGO (Sputnik) – The MiG-31, the fastest fighter-interceptor in service anywhere in the world, has been comprehensively upgraded since starting its service in 1981.
"By 2028, the fighter-interceptor MiG-31 will cease to exist… We have the time to create a new aircraft as a replacement," Korotkov told RIA Novosti at the international aerospace show FIDAE-2016 in Chile.
The two-seater MiG-31 aircraft can intercept targets up to 200 kilometers (124 miles) away thanks to its advanced radar and long-range missiles. It can operate efficiently in all weather conditions and is equipped with state-of-the-art digital avionics.
