DUBAI (Sputnik) — On Wednesday, Assad told Sputnik that a political transition means a transition from one constitution to another, thus the transitional period must be guided by Syria’s current constitution.
Agha argued that a new constitution must guide Syria through the transitional period.
"The constitution that we want must determine the country’s structure, including for the transitional period, although this document must be all-inclusive – for the short-term and long-term perspectives," Agha told RIA Novosti.
The latest round of talks between the Syrian government and opposition forces opened on March 14 in Switzerland and lasted for 10 days. A new round of negotiations on the Syrian future is planned for April 11, but the exact date has not been set yet.
Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with forces loyal to Assad's government fighting numerous opposition factions and extremist groups.
Besides government representatives, three opposition delegations are taking part in the peace talks: the HNC, which was formed in Saudi Arabia, a delegation formed following talks in Moscow and Cairo and a group formed after opposition talks at the Hmeimim air base in Syria.
