MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Thursday, the Turkish authorities detained Alparslan Celik, the alleged killer of one of the pilots of the Russian jet downed by Turkey over Syria in November 2015.
"We need to have information about the charges, [for what reason] he has been detained, what this man will be accused of and how the murder he has committed will be interpreted by the Turkish prosecutors," Peskov told reporters, answering a question about Moscow's position on the detention.
He added that only a court can find someone guilty, but in this case, the only evidence is the claim made by the accused himself that he committed the murder.
On November 24, Russian pilot Oleg Peshkov was killed, reportedly by rebel gunfire, after he successfully ejected from his Su-24 fighter-bomber, brought down by a Turkish F-16 fighter jet. Another pilot was rescued.
