In accordance with the plan announced Wednesday by General Phil Breedlove, commander of US European Command (EUCOM), NATO will position additional US troops as well as up to 250 tanks, Bradley Fighting Vehicles and Paladin self-propelled howitzers and other heavy armored vehicles along its eastern borders in Europe.
However, former Republican congressman Dr. Ron Paul and American political analyst Daniel McAdams believe that Gen. Breedlove's initiative, aimed against Russia, resembles nothing so much as "aggression" itself.
Dr. Paul turned the spotlight on the fact that almost 62,000 US military forces are permanently based in Europe. It looks as if it does not cost too much for American taxpayers to increase the number of American troops in the region — "a billion here and a billion there," the former congressman stressed, nailing the Pentagon.
There is something really illogical about putting your troops on someone else's border and still describing it as "deterrence," McAdams remarked, posing the question: who is the real aggressor?
"What is the Russian aggression? It was the US that fomented the coup in Ukraine. It was the US who backed the overthrow of the legitimate government there and it turned out as bad as the other US regime changes like Libya, Syria and others," Daniel McAdams noted during the recent Liberty Report program.
However, the crux of the matter is that many Americans have repeatedly fallen victim to the propaganda campaigns of Washington hawks, Ron Paul emphasizes, referring to the US' infamous invasion of Iraq.
In his recent interview with Sputnik, German politician Dr. Alexander Neu pointed to the fact that the "Russian aggression" slogan is nothing less than sheer propaganda.
"The US has blown this imaginary threat out of proportion. It is an attempt to increase the anti-Russian sentiment in Europe," Dr. Neu told Sputnik.
"I don't see that [Moscow] poses a threat to the Baltic states, Poland, Romania and Bulgaria. This is why this threat is imaginary," he underscored.
According to Russian envoy to NATO Alexander Grushko, Russia will not just sit and wait watching NATO's beefing up its military presence in Europe.
"There will be an asymmetrical response, which will be highly efficient, not extremely expensive and calibrated in accordance with Russia's understanding of the extent of the military threat," Grushko said in an interview with Russia-24 news channel.
