MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to NBC10 Philadelphia, citing Chester Fire Department Commissioner Travis Thomas, the 35 passengers sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The train was headed from New York City to Savannah, Georgia and had 341 passengers on board. There were also seven crew members.
"All Amtrak Service Suspended between Wilmington and Philadelphia until Early Sunday Afternoon," Amtrak said on its website.
Following the crash, the train passengers were told to remain on the train until the rails were deactivated. Emergency response services were called to work on the scene.
The US National Transportation Safety Board said on Twitter it was sending a team of investigators to probe the accident.
