MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A delegation of US congressmen are visiting the Russian capital, which marks their first visit in three years.
"Russia and the United States are the two countries having a tremendous influence on this planet. But we haven't had this delegation over the past three years. What this indicates is that we had almost a breakdown of interaction," Rohrabacher said.
He added that despite existing difference on certain issues, Moscow and Washington should be able to find common ground.
"There are things that we agree and things that we disagree, but we must talk about those things and we must find those mutual pathways that would be mutually beneficial," he said.
The relations between Moscow and Washington have soured in light of the internal conflict in Ukraine, with the US authorities accusing Russia of meddling in Ukraine's domestic affairs, while the Kremlin denies any involvement.
The United States also does not recognize the results of a referendum in Crimea in March 2014, as a result of which the peninsula decided to secede from Ukraine and rejoin Russia.
