MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Frontex told the BBC the first boat carrying 136 migrants, mostly Pakistani, left Lesbos on Monday morning and arrived in the Turkey's coastal town of Dikili.
The next group of migrants is due to be deported later in the day.
In late March, Ankara and Brussels reached a deal to curb the so-called Balkan route used by migrants to travel through Greece and Macedonia to wealthier EU states. Under the deal, Turkey pledged to take back all illegal migrants who arrive in the European Union through its border and sending legal Syrian refugees to the bloc on a one-for-one basis. The Turkey-EU deal on returning illegal migrants in exchange for Syrian war refugees comes into force on Monday.
